About Us

Although two generations before him had learned their builder/developer/management skills on the job, Alan Zaretsky enjoyed the additional benefit of a quality education, first at the University of Colorado School of Engineering, then at Boston University School of Business and New York Law School. First a part-time office worker, Alan became a full-time employee of the family business, starting as a laborer in 1974. But family enterprises soon recruited him for management responsibilities beginning with the conversion of some of their rental buildings into co-ops.

The diversity of the Zaretsky holdings required Alan’s active participation through the 1970s and early 80s. Alan was involved in subdividing residential land in Cortland Manor, renovating and managing New York City office property, developing 40,000 square feet of offices in upstate New York, and converting buildings to cooperatives.

In 1985, Alan initiated the construction of a 72-unit luxury condominium high-rise called the “Pavilion.” From multi-family, he began construction of luxury single family residences in Armonk. Under his direction, Zaretsky Enterprises continued expanding, forming a variety of new companies to provide such services as in-house maintenance, repairs, leasing, and build-out; management; construction; tenant alterations; and general contracting¬† Alan took over the helm of Zaretsky Enterprises, upon his father’s partial retirement, in 1990.

As of December 2007, Zaretsky Enterprises had completely renovated and rented 4518 Court Square, a 130,000 square foot office building in Queens, NY; designed and constructed Executive Park I & II, two office buildings totaling 45,000 square feet in Poughkeepsie, NY; as well as renovated and leased over 80,000 square feet of commercial office space in downtown White Plains, NY (300 Hamilton Avenue and 95 Church Street). In Courtland Manor, Mr. Zaretsky developed and constructed 50 single family homes in The Covington Estates development. In addition over the years, under Aldio Development Corporation, together with associates Dominick & John Dioguardi, they successfully built over 75 Residential homes throughout the New York area. In 2001, Mr. Zaretsky constructed the Manor at Woodside a 127 unit assisted living facility in Poughkeepsie, NY. This project in association with Vassar Hospital provides housing for senior residents in an environment specially catered to their needs.

Commercial and land acquisitions continued. Projects underway or in the formative stages include the Armonk Square Project. The project is a mixed-used development consisting of five two-story buildings totaling approximately 52,801 square feet located in the Hamlet of Armonk, NY. The approval process having been completed the five buildings will contain a mixture of ground floor retail and second floor residential rentals totaling approximately 27,398 square feet and 26,147 square feet, respectively. An adjacent parcel was also purchased to enhance the Armonk Square project.

Mr. Zaretsky currently oversees the management of over 1,200 residential multi-family apartments and cooperatives as well as the aforementioned commercial office sites. His main office is located at 60 Morrow Avenue Scarsdale, NY in the largest of his residential holdings, Jeffrey Park a 464 unit apartment complex.

Alan lives in Armonk with his wife and daughter Alexandra, who is currently attending Northwestern University. Alan, like his father and grandfather before him believes in community involvement. Despite the demands of construction and development, he allocates time for family, neighbors, and community. Mr. Zaretsky looks forward to the continuation of his family’s legacy with the addition of his oldest son Joshua, who has become a full-time employee of Zaretsky Enterprises after working for a prestigious real estate firm in Greenwich, CT for several years, and his son Jon who recently graduated from The University of Miami School of Business.
